With over 5,000 acres of woodland, the Great Park is truly a natural wonder to behold!
Whether it’s a visit to the Long Walk stretching away from Windsor Castle, a cycle around the deer park, a stroll around Smith’s Lawn, home to the Guards Polo Club, or a trip to one of Britain’s most ornamental gardens at Savill Gardens, the park is a delight year-round for adults and kids alike.
Cranbourne gate is the closest parking to Stirrups (3 miles) - the parking though now chargeable, is easy to use and gives secure parking. We recommend heading there in the morning or later in the afternoon as it does get busy at peak times.
Satnav address: A332, WINDSOR SL4 2BT
When you go in through Cranbourne gate keep going straight, and head straight across the road at the bottom of the hill. Keep going through when you get to the black gates and you will enter the Deer park and come across the statue at the end of the long walk giving you great views back to towards Windsor Castle. On a clear day you can see London from this spot.
We know that a nice walk is not the most appetising for younger kids. However, a promise of a play ground, an ice cream & feeding the swans tends to help. Head through Cranbourne gate and head as above towards the big black gate - turn right just before the black gate and right again at the end of this road. On your left as you reach the Great Park village green is a secret playground that is free to use.
Keep heading past the village green and you will find The Village shop on your right - this opens 8am - 1pm Mon to Fri due to Covid but we expect these hours to increase as we come out of lockdown. The shop has crisps, snacks and ice cream, and is very quaintly situated.
Just beyond the shop is a couple of fishing ponds where swans often gather so perhaps take some bread along with you to feed them!
Then its just a short walk back to the car - a short but rather nice circular walk for kids!
